What makes a good meeting? If I say to you, "today, you have to go to a meeting," how would you feel? So today I had my monthly Governing Board meeting at church and to be honest they're usually uneventful. At times they can be more of a burden then they are helpful. Sometimes we get off topic and sometimes we talk about things that probably don't warrant a lengthy discussions.
But lately we've been trying to make our meetings more than just business. Today's meeting was really awesome. We opened up with reading the Bible and continued with doing a thing called "Celebrations." This part of the meeting is where we simply celebrate God for He has done for us over the past month. We had a little business in the middle, but we ended very strong. We ended with an amazing brainstorming session on how to reach our community. People came up with great ideas and we had a really fun time of brainstorming. I really enjoyed the discussion and contribution from each board member. On June 26th we're doing a BBQ/picnic on our church lawn with a concert from Testify (a group from Georgia). We'll eat at 6pm and have the concert at 7pm. we also planned for an outdoor Sunday morning service on July 12th - very exciting.
My hope is that we continue to make Board Meetings more about loving God and loving others. If we can focus more time glorifying God and more time figuring out how to reach our community, I'll be a happy man.
