So today was my 2nd ever Father's Day. I'm not sure I have actually embraced what this day actually means to me. I love Father's Day, but have I really come to strong grasp on what this day means to me as a father? Maybe it's because Elianah is still really young and she doesn't really understand what today means either. When I think of Father's Day, I still think of celebrating my dad and other dads, instead of celebrating myself.
I'm very thankful that on this Father's Day, I got to do what I love to do best - preach the Word of God. Then I got a great lunch from Melinda who picked up some tasty ribs from Cobleskill. For dinner we went to P.F. Chang's which is much better than I remembered it (it was horrible the first time). Then Melinda finished off the night with buying me my very own camera! What a great Father's Day. I need to let this day soak in and embrace everything that comes with it.
You may ask, what about your father Tim? Now's not the time, to talk about my dad. I'll blog about my dad someday, who was such a great leader and role model for me. My dad deserves his own entire blog post.
I want to close tonight thanking two people who push me to become a better dad - Jesus and my wife Melinda. When I look at the life of Jesus in the Bible, I understand that he calls me to be something better than who I am. Jesus calls me to be great and to be an example for my family. And also thanks to Melinda who knows what kind of man I can be and who I need to become. She makes me a better person each day.

Checking Your Family History
Do you ever wonder why you do what you do? Why do you constantly do the same sins over again? Do you see patterns in your family that have occurred over and over in a particular generation?
All of us have a family. What we have to embrace is that God choose to bring us in a particular family, in a particular place, at a particular moment in history. This gives us a lot of blessings, opportunities, and gifts. However, many of the families that we are born in hand us down emotional baggage. For some of us this baggage is really small and it doesn’t play a big part in our life. For others of us, this baggage is so heavy, so much of a burden on us, we think that this is the way life has to be lived.
Part of breaking free is being able to live with complete joy and freedom in the present day. But to live this life of breaking free from our emotional baggage, we have to go back. In order to move forward spiritually, we have to go back emotionally. God wants us to break free from the destructive sinful patterns of our pats to live the life God intends for us.
What happens in one generation often repeats itself in the next generation. The consequences of actions and decisions taken in one generation affect those who follow. So in order to break free from generational sin, it is healthy to observe certain patterns from one generation to the next. There are sin patterns such as: divorce, alcoholism, addictive behavior, sexual abuse, poor marriages, children running away, mistrust of authority, pregnancy out of wedlock, an inability to sustain stable relationships, etc.
All of us have a family and all of us came from a family. Our patterns are played out in our present relationships with us not even knowing it sometimes. The way you live your life isn’t just for today. The way you life is affected by your previous generations and the way you live your life will effect future generations.
If you don’t deal with your generational sin, it won’t go away, it will linger. You may think not thinking about your generational sin will make it go away. The reality is that it won’t go away.
So are you going to break the cycle of your family problems? Or are you going to let your negative family behaviors get passed down to the next generation?
Here are two books to help you out on your journey: Why You Do What You Do and Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. Read these and began your journey today.

Moms, Elianah, and Life
As I write this blog on Mother's Day, I must remember and give thanks to my mom who raised me in the faith. My mom was there for me, setting an example of how to live a Christian life. She continues to show her love and support for everything I do. Happy Mother's Day Mom!....
Today is also very important because this holiday celebrates Melinda's first year as a mother. I always knew she would be a great mother, but she has gone above and beyond her role. The way she loves Elianah is truly beautiful. The way she tends to the need of Elianah, while working full-time at home is remarkable. I'm out of the house everyday of the week and Melinda stays at home and joyfully takes care of Elianah. For Mother's Day Elianah and I went out to Applebee's to pick up dinner on Saturday night. We brought it back home and had a nice, quiet family meal. Last week Elianah and I spent the day at the mall and we were able to buy Melinda's present together. So I'm honored to be married to such a wonderful mother. Happy Mother's day Melinda!...
Just a few days ago, Elianah turned 6 months. Yeah, where has the time gone? She's so big, most of her clothes are all 9 months and up. What a joy it has been to play a key role in raising a little girl. I am filled with joy when I come in and Elianah has a huge smile on her face, waiting for me to pick her up. Speaking of Elianah, this Saturday (May 17th @ 4:00pm) we will be having Elianah's baby dedication. All are invited and we hope that you can come and celebrate this special day with us. The dedication will be held at the church.
We're enjoying our time at the church. We have seen God move in a lot of ways and are continuing to build relationships with people at the church. Though I do have to admit it is difficult at times. It's difficult to be bi-vocational, it's difficult to have a small budget, it's difficult to have a few core members, etc., etc., etc. We know what the ministry will look like in the future, the hard part is getting there. At times it can be overwhelming to figure out how to lead a replant, but the key for us is to be continually in prayer for God's work in the church. So if you ever think about us, please keep us in prayer. We are taking a risk and are praying for God to increase our attendance 10% every month for the next year. For some, this may seem like a small number, but for a small, declining (in the past) church, this a huge step. So pray that we seek God and God continues to bring people into our lives. I continually thank God in advanced for all the work He will do.
I'm happy today is Mother's day. I'm happy for Elianah's dedication. I'm happy that my parents are flying in on Wednesday. Life is great (except for the Lakers losing Game 4 today, plus Kobe getting injured).
