I'm continuing a running blog of the Top 10 Sermons downloaded from our website at Carman Road Alliance Church. I felt that I needed to personally revisit the meaning behind each sermon and I hope that through my person revisit, you can get something out of it as well.
Today we're on #9 - "The Party" (from our Party Theology series)
I loved this series and I loved the concept behind the series. I got the idea from this series listening to a bunch of sermons from Mosaic and Erwin McManus. Every year Mosaic does a series called Party Theology based on the passage in Luke 5. Their goal behind the series was for the people in the church to throw a big party and invite their friends who did not know Jesus. Loved the concept so much, I took the idea and modified it a little bit.
For this series we decorated the entire sanctuary with party ballons - quite a change for some people. Everytime somebody walked into the sanctuary, people thought that we were celebrating someone's birthday. We introduced this series right before Thanksgiving, giving people in our church to throw a gathering during one of the upcoming holidays.
The word “theology” simply means the study of God. Theology is simply applying what we know about God and his Word to our everyday life. Party theology is the concept that heaven is a party. Heaven is a party that every person in this world is invited to. Our invitation to God's family comes through Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ into our lives, we accept God's invitation to join heaven's party. The Bible tells us that when a sinner repents, there's a big party in heaven for that individual. Party Theology is basically asking ourselves 2 questions: 1) Am I going to accept the invitation to the party and 2) What am I doing to bring others to the party?
The best part of this sermon was that it wasn't until many months later that I heard a great testimony of a few families praticing this out and making an impact.
