The Value of Mentoring

A few days ago, I had my first meeting with my new mentor, Jonathan. Mentoring has always been something that I am passionate about, whether it is mentoring others or being mentored. The value of mentoring is that it allows us to give and receive life lessons. Mentoring helps us grow, it challenges us, and it refines us. In my life, my largest growth has been through tremendous mentoring relationships with others. Mentoring comes in many different forms and I encourage each person to consider how they can mentor others and be mentored. Some insightful books on mentoring include: The Power of Mentoring, Connecting, Mentoring Leaders, and Mentoring. I encourage you to read these books so that you may understand more what a mentoring relationship entails.

I am really excited about learning from Jonathan, as he has a lot to pass on to me since he's an experienced husband, father, and pastor - 3 key areas of my life. When we met, we were able to meet at the church where he pastors. The church just built a new building because they outgrew their previous meeting space. I was excited to learn about the process of going through the building process from dream to reality.

Experts say that once your service is 80% full, it's actually as much as people can handle. Meaning, the church needs to add another service or expand. When I was touring his church, I began to think about Carman Road and our capacity. We can seat 370 maximum capacity in the sanctuary. To fill the sanctuary, we can go to about 280 before we need to expand to another service. And if we add a second service, the building can probably only handle 5o0 people before we have to expand or look for a new location.

Now we're nowhere close to maxing out our first service, but it's never too early to dream or brainstorm because when the time does come, we'll have already been thinking about what to do.

Hi, Pastor Tim,
I am delighted that God has given you, Jonathan as your mentor--a man of vision, just like you!
Last Nov. I attended a funeral at Carman Road and every pew had someone in it. I prayed: "Lord, will you do it again? Fill every pew on a Sunday morning with people seeking you?"
Praising God for your vision and trusting Him with you!
